Lots of news to share this month!

You now can choose to pay for your monthly CE meetings and component sponsored CE course using a credit card!  The board has worked diligently to make this a reality.

We also have online registration, you can find it on the CE page; choose to pay either by credit card or by sending a check. You may fill out the form online and pay online, when you do that,  the registration form goes to Toni our vice president, and to Linda our treasurer all at the same time. If you choose to pay with a check, you can print the registration form and mail it to Toni. Ahhh, the wonders of the electronic age.

Feebies--Wendy St Cyr donated 10 dinners to students.  She did this out of her own pocket. The students thank you Wendy! Millie Fu has donated a case of CG America MI paste and case of their Dry Mouth & Jeff from Orascopic who will have an exhibit table at the October meeting, is donating an Apollo LED Headlight…all to be raffled off in the October meeting.

Employment --We’ve had a wonderful response to this page on the web site.  There will be some changes coming.  Those who can temp will be listed according to the county they want to temp in; right now its too much scrolling up and down to find someone.  This will narrow it so offices can find someone faster. findrdh@gmail.com is the email address for offices and staff to use. Remember we will have post cards and business cards on the tables so you can take them to distribute to offices and colleagues.

Newsletter and web site--all information about the component is on the web site.  Remember we send one newsletter per year only. In September we had 51% new visitors to the web site, they look at 3 pages each time they visit & spend over 4 minutes on the site……we have a hit!  We have created a new button on the site; the Volunteer page is for those of you who want to ‘Do good and Feel good’.  Find it all on www.sacvalleydentalhygienists.org.

Dental Hygiene Committee of CA-- As many of you know, hygienists are no longer part of COMDA, our new board/bureau is “DHCC” or  Dental Hygiene Committee of CA and will be established in 2009.  It will consist of 9 members appointed by the Governor; 4 public members, 1 practicing dentist, and 4 registered dental hygienists. Of the RDH’s, 1 will be an educator, and 1 will be licensed in either alternative practice or extended functions. http://www.comda.ca.gov/lawsregs/upcoming.shtml
Dental Hygienists will no longer be under any one - we are accountable and report directly to the Department of Consumer Affairs. Scope of practice issues must be addressed by the legislature; there is vague language in the bill suggesting scope of practice issues will be "noticed" to the Dental Board.

CDHA is going to be working with COMDA in putting out some press releases covering not only our new DH regulatory agency but will also highlight some new data gathering issues to be instituted for dentists and dental hygienists - stay tuned, exciting times are ahead!
